Company in Victoria, and such additional wire and
posts shall be of the same description as the present
wire and posts of the Government Telegraph.
4. The Company will pay to the Government one
half the total cost of erecting all the posts to be
used by the Company and of both the original and the
new wires, that is to say, at the rate of one hundred
and sixty-four dollars per mile.
5. The Government and the Company will defray
in equal shares the expense of maintaining and renew-
ing the said posts and wires and of keeping them in
good working order and condition. Provided always
that in case any other Telegraph Company shall apply
to the Government for permission to use the said Tele-
graph posts, such permission shall not be granted ex-
cept on the condition that such other Company contri-
bute rateably with the Government and the Company (party hereto) to the costs of the maintenance and re-
newal thereof.
6. The repairs to all such posts and wires as
aforesaid shall be effected by the Government who
hereby undertake to keep the same in good working
order. Provided always that in the event of any acci- dent or derangement causing an interruption of comma- nication, or in any other case of urgency, the Company
may themselves effect the necessary repairs if they think fit, and shall be credited in account with the
Government for half the cost of such repairs, provided
the same shall have been executed to the satisfaction
of
